The Story

For the creators, Amy + Abby (A Mother x Daughter duo ), Mahjongg has been passed down generationally and a point of connection weekly when family, friends, and community get together to teach, create, or play.

Amy (The Mother), the main reason for the line, discovered her love for the tiles & sets growing up watching her grandmother play. She remembers being in awe from watching her play while hearing the sound of her grandmother's long acrylics click against the tiles. Eventually, her aunt taught her how to play and she has been playing ever since. She has gone on to form multiple groups with friends and has taught most of them how to play.

Abby (The Daughter), discovered her love for the sets & designs... after watching and hearing her mother play growing up. Oftentimes, while she was hanging out with her friends, they would walk into the room where their moms were playing mahj. Her intentions were mainly to say hi and eat their snacks. But, then Abby noticed how the mood of the room was so often dictated by how the game was going... How all of them would be silent, laser focused and competitive for one second and then be laughing talking about their lives for the next. All, whilst continuously being interrupted by someone else's "7 BAM!" or... "9 CRACK" when they put down a tile. It was beautiful, really. But, what spoke to her most was always.. how beautiful all of the tiles and sets were. So, she started making graphic designs for her mother based on her own playful, modern personalized connections to the tiles. Soon enough, making them for just for her mother.. became making them for family+friends, and now that... has turned into this line. So, Let's Mahj!

Abby + Amy acknowledge that the graphics use symbols & characters that represent designs rooted in Chinese culture. The hope for this line is to use these representations of the symbols & characters with the hopes of spreading love for the game, culture, and to continue building community with every hand.
